Protective factors are strengths all families have and can build upon that support resilient, thriving children and families. They are:
· Nurturing and Attachment
· Knowledge of Parenting and Child Development
· Social and Emotional Competence of Children
· Parental Resilience
· Social Connections
· Concrete Supports in Times of Need

This month our focus is on Concrete Support- This protective factor can help families meet their basic needs and thrive. Concrete support can help families: alleviate stress, promote well-being, and focus on other essential aspects of their family life. Building a network of concrete supports in your life can help you deal with the stress that comes with difficult situations. This Protective Factor is all about making certain that your basic needs (food, shelter and clothing) are taken care of, and that you can connect with the people and services that can assist you when they are not.
In helping to create your support network we will start with information about local Baby Pantries. A Baby Pantry is a program that provides essential supplies to families in need for infants, toddlers, and young children. Baby pantries can offer a variety of clothes, diapers and other items. Parents can also exchange out-grown clean wearable clothing for others for their child. Check out our resource page for more local concrete supports. Another amazing resource for families is the Community Connections program. Check out more information about all they have to offer.
